In order to determine whether or not the instructors are experienced, you should ask the following questions:

• Are any of your instructors currently competing in professional dance competitions?  If so, which ones?
• Would it be possible for me to take lessons with that instructor [the one who competes professionally]?

A highly experienced instructor can help you learn how to dance more quickly and with better form.  It is also important that note that an instructor’s ability to explain is certainly as important as their ability to dance.  You can maximize your chances of getting a good teacher by asking to speak with them on the phone before your 1^st interview.  You will want to choose someone who is clear and logical when speaking on the phone because those characteristics are often a good indicator of how well a person can teach..

You will also want to find a ballroom dance studio that has a large dance floor and perhaps even a private ballroom to dance in.  It is important that the studio have a large dance floor because there are many dances, such as Foxtrot, Tango, and Waltz that require a large amount of room to dance.  One other thing you may want to ask about is whether or not they have a private ballroom to take lessons in.  For many people, it is much easier to learn without other people on the dance floor.  However, it may also be beneficial to learn on an open ballroom with many people because that is the type of area you will dance in when you’re dancing at a bar, party, or wedding.  It can also be beneficial for people to overcome fear of looking bad on a dance floor.

Another thing that you will want to consider is the reputation and reviews of the dance studio.  You can find reviews about a company by typing in the name of the dance studio on Google and reading the reviews linked to the company.  Often times, reviews can be useful in determining the quality of the studio.  You can also type in the name of the dance studio and the word ‘reviews’ to see what other people say about the studio.  In summary, I wish you the best of luck in finding a great dance studio.
